Organization:

Wroclaw University of Technology Wroclaw, POLAND, (Oct 1994 – June 2000)

Position:

Ph.D Student

Duties:

Conducted research and construction of a full-scale silo storage test model, and determined experimentally bulk material/concrete structure interaction (stress/strain relationship). Traditional theories were developed for rigid-wall silos ignoring the effects of stored material silo structure interaction. The research work examined  existing silo assumptions and the wall flexibility influence on the stress state within the stored material.

The result is that increasing silo wall flexibility during filling causes a reduction of the pressure acting on the wall. The reduction of the wall load occurs both for normal pressure (up to 15%) and for tangential pressure (up to 32%). It was concluded that stress along silo wall in flat-bottomed silo is not the same with the pressure acting on the silo wall. The bottom load increases along with the increase of the wall flexibility. The wall flexibility leads to the reduction of the factor K=ph/pv. This was experimentally verified and derived empirically and recommended for inclusion into European Building Code as part of Polish contribution. Also, Lectured for 4 years at the department of Civil and Construction engineering and attending several scientific conference and seminars in Europe and Middle East. Written several published scientific papers on massive silos technology and structural analysis and present them at international conferences.
